DiscountHero decides whether a customer is "the same person" as an earlier buyer by combining several signals. You can see and fine-tune every rule on the Settings page.
💡 In short: six detection strategies, each one switchable, each with its own sensitivity sliders. The defaults work for most stores; adjust only when you see false positives or misses in the Activity Log.
| Signal | How it is compared |
|---|---|
| Email address | Normalized (lowercase, spaces removed), exact or similar |
| Phone number | Normalized (country code unified), exact |
| First name and last name | Similarity score, tolerant to typos |
| Shipping address (street and house number) | Normalized and compared as text fragments, so "Hauptstr. 5" and "Hauptstraße 5" still match |
| IP address | Exact |
| Strategy | Detects a duplicate when |
|---|---|
| Exact email | The email address is identical |
| Exact phone | The phone number is identical |
| Similar name + similar address | First AND last name similar (default 80 %) AND address similar (default 96 %) |
| Similar address + similar email | Address similar (96 %) AND email similar (90 %) |
| Similar email + exact IP | Email similar (90 %) AND same IP address |
| Exact IP + similar name | Same IP address AND first AND last name similar (80 %) |
Each strategy can be switched on or off individually.
The decision rule sets how many strategies have to agree:
Every "similar" condition has a slider from 0 % to 100 %:
Example: lowering the address slider of "Similar name + similar address" from 96 % to 90 % also catches "Hauptstr. 5" vs. "Haupt Strasse 5". Raising the name slider to 95 % avoids matching "Anna Müller" with "Anne Müller".
Use Reset to default on any strategy to go back to the standard values.
Changes are saved with the save bar at the top of the page. See Activity Log and your numbers.
