Automatic correction
When the app corrects on its own and how sure it has to be.
With automatic correction active, AddressHero fixes clear address errors on its own, without any customer action. This is the smoothest experience for your customers and the recommended setup for most stores.
How it works
- After checkout, the order is created in Shopify and AddressHero validates the shipping address.
- If an error is detected AND the databases return an unambiguous, high-confidence correction, the shipping address of the order is corrected automatically. Typical corrections: typos in the street (Haustrasse to Hauptstraße) or city (Muenchen to München), or a postal code mismatch (20315 Berlin to 10115 Berlin).
- If the correction should ever be wrong from the customer's point of view, the customer can revert the change or manually adjust the address on the Order Status page.
The post-checkout validation must be active for automatic correction to work.
💡 Tip: on Pro, orders to Germany, Austria and Switzerland additionally get an AI pre-check that untangles messy input (company in the street field, house number in the wrong place) before validation. See AI-assisted address parsing (Pro).
Fine-tuning options
- Per-country activation: restrict automatic correction to selected countries. With no country selected, it applies everywhere. (Note: this setting controls the CORRECTION only; validation and billing are not affected by it.)
- Automatically assign the house number to address line 1: if a valid address has its house number elsewhere, it is moved into address line 1 where carriers expect it.
- Automatic space correction: ensures correct spacing between street name and house number in address line 1.
- Allow a house number placeholder: customers with addresses that genuinely have no house number can enter "0" as a placeholder, and AddressHero removes it automatically after checkout.
When AddressHero does NOT correct automatically
- No unambiguous match in the databases: the order is flagged and the customer is asked instead. We never guess.
- The address is on your whitelist: it is skipped entirely. See Address whitelisting.

Transparency
Every automatic correction is logged in the order timeline in your Shopify admin with the before and after address. If you want corrected orders to be filterable, activate order tagging: see Finding corrected orders.
