PaymentHero gives you control over how payment methods appear in your Shopify checkout. The order and naming of payment options influence which one customers pick, and that directly affects your conversion rate and your transaction fees.
What you can do
- Sort: put the payment methods in the order that serves your customers best, instead of Shopify's default order.
- Hide: remove payment methods from view in specific countries or below/above a cart value, for example to avoid expensive options in certain markets.
- Rename: give technically-named payment methods a label your customers actually understand.
All rules can be set per country, so different markets can see a different checkout. See Payment rules overview.
What PaymentHero does NOT do
- It does not add payment methods. The app works with the methods you have integrated in Shopify; if a method is missing in your checkout, it needs to be set up in your Shopify payment settings or with the payment provider first.
- It does not target individual customers or segments. Rules apply per country, not per customer.
- It cannot change the descriptive texts that payment providers show in the checkout (for example Klarna's "you will be charged..." notice). Those are set by the provider and Shopify.
Some payment methods are restricted by Shopify itself, especially express wallets and, without Shopify Plus, manual and third-party methods. The complete picture: Which payment methods can you control (and what needs Shopify Plus)?.
What impact can you expect?
💬 Honest answer: it varies. We have merchants where a better payment order brought up to 1.5% conversion rate uplift, and others where the effect was smaller. Stores with a clear mismatch between the default order and what customers prefer (for example PayPal-heavy audiences seeing credit card first) benefit most.
