Which payment methods can you control (and what needs Shopify Plus)?

The complete map of Shopify's platform restrictions: native methods vs. express wallets vs. manual and third-party methods, per Shopify plan.

The most common PaymentHero questions ("Why can't I hide Shop Pay?", "Why can't I sort PayPal to the top?", "Why can't I rename Klarna?", "Where is my manual payment method?") all have the same root: Shopify restricts at platform level which payment methods apps may touch, and the restrictions depend on your Shopify plan and on HOW a method is integrated. Here is the complete map.

On all Shopify plans

You can sort, hide and rename the native payment methods that Shopify exposes to apps, for example credit card via Shopify Payments, PayPal as a direct payment method, Klarna as an additional payment method.

Restricted by Shopify, regardless of app

Express wallets (Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal Express): editing, sorting or hiding express payment methods is only possible on Shopify Plus. On standard plans, they always appear where Shopify puts them.
Wallets integrated via Shopify Payments cannot be sorted at all: if PayPal runs as a wallet through Shopify Payments, its position is fixed. If PayPal is integrated as its own direct payment method, sorting works. The integration type in your Shopify payment settings decides.
Manual payment methods (bank transfer, cash on delivery): without Plus, Shopify only opens the native payment methods to apps, so manual methods cannot be targeted on a non-Plus plan.
Third-party gateways on non-Plus plans: hiding is a visual "soft hide"; properly blocking them requires Shopify Plus. See Create a hide rule.
Methods with logos (Klarna, PayPal) cannot be renamed, and provider notice texts cannot be changed by any app.
Credit card can only be modified on Shopify Plus.
Shop Pay in the Shopify mobile app does not apply payment customizations.
