PaymentHero customizes your checkout through rules. There are three rule types, and each rule applies to the countries you select.
| Rule type | What it does | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Sort | Puts payment methods in your preferred order | PayPal first for a PayPal-heavy audience |
| Hide | Removes methods from view, per country or cart value | No invoice payment in high-risk markets |
| Rename | Gives a method a customer-friendly label | "Kauf auf Rechnung" instead of a gateway name |
By default, Shopify puts credit card via Shopify Payments first. Sorting the methods in the order that fits your customer base lifts conversion with zero effort. Best practice for most DACH stores:
See Create a sort rule.
In some markets it makes sense to hide certain payment methods, for example because of higher transaction or currency exchange fees, or high default rates on invoice payments. Hide rules work per country or based on cart value. See Create a hide rule.
Some payment method labels are technical rather than customer-friendly. Renaming them creates a clearer checkout. Note that methods displayed with a logo (Klarna, PayPal) cannot be renamed, Shopify does not allow it. See Create a rename rule.
Two things determine whether rules work:
ℹ️ Plan limits: Basic allows up to 5 rules, Premium up to 25. Design tip: each country can appear only once per rule type, so build one rule per country set instead of overlapping rules.
