A rule is active but the checkout does not change, or countries are missing from the selection list? Work through this checklist, it covers the causes we see in support.
1. Countries missing from the selection list?
The country list in PaymentHero comes from your Shopify Markets setup:
- The market must be Active. A market that is still a draft is not passed on to apps.
- The countries must be in a shipping zone. Countries without a shipping zone do not show up in the list.
- After changing markets or shipping zones, reload the app once.
ā¹ļø Note: some territories (for example Monaco) are not available as selectable countries.
2. Does the payment method label actually match?
The most common silent failure: the label you entered in Set up your payment methods does not appear anywhere in the real checkout name of the method, so the rule matches nothing. Open your checkout, copy the exact wording, and fix the label. Or share your logs with us and we find the correct payment handler for you.
3. Is the method controllable at all?
Express wallets, manual methods and credit card have platform restrictions depending on your Shopify plan. See Which payment methods can you control (and what needs Shopify Plus)?. If the method you target is restricted, no rule can move it.
4. Conflicting or stale rules?
- All rules that match a checkout are applied together, there is no ranking. Hide rules add up: two hide rules for the same country hide the methods of both. Two sort rules or two renames for the same method conflict, so keep one sort rule per country and one rename per method.
- If a rule set behaves strangely after many edits, deleting the rules and recreating them cleanly resolves it surprisingly often.
5. The rare fail-open case
The customization runs as a Shopify Function. If it errors or times out on a single checkout, Shopify falls back to showing all payment methods unmodified. If this happens repeatedly, reduce the number and complexity of your rules and contact us.
Still stuck?
Share your logs with us (see How to share your logs with us) and tell us which rule and which country you tested. We can see exactly what the function evaluated.
