You are migrating a store or importing historical orders into Shopify? Two minutes of reading here can save you real money.
Why imports can trigger charges
AddressHero validates every newly created order with a shipping address, and on the Pro plan each validation is billed at $0.04. To Shopify, an imported historical order looks like a new order. Importing 40,000 old orders without precautions therefore means 40,000 validations, which is money spent on addresses you will never ship to again.
What is already safe
Imports via Matrixify are excluded from validation by default, so the most common migration tool is covered.
Before any other import
If you plan a bulk import via another tool or a custom script:
- Contact us via support BEFORE the import and tell us the shop and the rough order volume. We make sure the import is excluded.
- Alternatively, pause the post-checkout validation in the app settings for the duration of the import, and reactivate it right after.
- After the import, spot-check your AddressHero dashboard: the order count should not have jumped.
If it already happened
Contact us via support with the import date and order volume. Charges caused by a historical import are refunded, typically as Shopify app credits. We would much rather prevent the case, hence this article.
